Days to Auburn Kickoff: 18 Kodi Burns

18 days until Auburn football kicks off the 2017 season.

Today we recognize a notable number 18; Kodi Burns.

Burns played quarterback and wide receiver for Auburn from 2007 until 2010. Burns started seven games at quarterback during the 2008 season. Burns was a wide receiver for Auburn’s 2010 SEC Champion and National Champion team. Burns caught a 35 yard touchdown pass from Cam Newton in the 2010 National Championship game against Oregon.

In February of 2016, Burns was named wide receivers coach for Auburn and again work under head coach Gus Malzahn.

ESPN 106.7 Quarterback Prediction Challenge Winner

auburnCongratulations to the winner of the ESPN 106.7 quarterback prediction challenge, Anthony Allen. Anthony projected that Jarrett Stidham would be named Auburn’s starting quarterback at 6:00 today. His prediction was the closest that we received to the actual announcement that came at 11:02 this morning. Anthony won our prize package that included a The Drive t-shirt, three classic Auburn Football DVD’s, and a signable Auburn University football.

Other close predictions that we recieved included Bill from Opelika that projected the announcement to come at 6:01 today and Ed from Auburn who saw the projection coming at 6:08 today. Thank you to everyone that entered and remember that we will begin our score prediction contest for the Auburn/Georgia Southern game in two weeks.

Days to Auburn Kickoff: 23 Ronnie Brown

We are now 23 days away from the return of Auburn football.

Today we will recognize a notable number 23; Ronnie Brown, who was Auburn’s running back from 2000 until 2004.

The Rome, Georgia native redshirted during the 2000 season. Throughout his time at Auburn, Brown split the running back duties with Carnell Williams. Brown’s best season came in 2002 when he gained a career high 1,008 yards on 175 carries and scored 13 touchdowns. He also had a receiving touchdown during the 2002 season.

Brown finished his Auburn career with 513 carries, 2,707 yards and 30 total touchdowns.

Brown was selected with the number two overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2005 NFL Draft. Brown played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Dolphins, Eagles, Chargers and Texans.

In 2016, Ronnie Brown was named Auburn Sports Network’s new sideline reporter for Auburn football games.

Days to Auburn Kickoff: 33 Will Hastings

Only 33 short days until Auburn football!

Today we honor a notable number 33; Will Hastings.

The Little Rock, Arkansas native went to Pulaski Academy before arriving on Auburn’s campus in the fall of 2015.

Hastings tallied 2,040 receiving yards in his high school senior season, becoming just the second receiver in state history to gain 2,000 yards in a season.

Hastings appeared in two games in 2015 and had one kickoff against LSU. The kicker-turned-wide receiver appeared in 11 games in 2016. The first touchdown of his career came on a 29-yard catch against Arkansas State. Six of 11 catches in 2016 gained first downs.

2017 will be the junior season for Will Hastings.

Days to Auburn Kickoff: 38 Daniel Carlson

We are only 38 days away from Auburn football! Today we recognize a current member of the Auburn football team and someone who wears number 38 on his jersey.

That player is Daniel Carlson.

Carlson has appeared in 39 games in his career. He is a two-time Lou Groza Award finalist at placekicker. Carlson holds 12 Auburn kick or scoring records, including a record eight field goals of over 50 yards. Carlson holds the Auburn career field goals made record with 69.

2017 will be Carlson’s senior season.

Days to Auburn Kickoff: 43 Phillip Lutzenkirchen

Only 43 short days until Auburn football!

Today we honor a notable number 43; Phillip Lutzenkirchen.

The Marietta, Georgia native went to Lassiter High School before arriving on Auburn’s campus in the fall of 2009. Lutzenkirchen’s high school coach was current Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.

Lutzenkirchen’s first career catch was a 13-yard TD reception from Kodi Burns vs. Mississippi State. Lutzenkirchen appeared in all 13 games in Auburn’s 2010 National Championship season. Against Alabama that season, Lutzenkirchen’s 7-yard TD reception from Cam Newton gave Auburn a 28-27 lead and ultimately won the game. In 2011, Lutzenkirchen caught a team-high 7 touchdowns. His career ended midway through the 2012 season as a result of a hip injury.

Lutzenkirchen ranks first in Auburn football history for touchdown receptions by a tight end with 14.

In June of 2014, Lutzenkirchen died in a car accident traveling through Georgia. Lutzenkirchen was just 23 years old.

ESPN Radio to Debut Golic & Wingo Morning Drive Show November 27

image002Duo will Host Mike & Mike Together July 18 – 20

ESPN Radio will debut its new morning drive showGolic & Wingo, hosted by Mike Golic and Trey Wingo, on Monday, Nov. 27. The program will air from 6 – 10 a.m. ET on ESPN Radio and will initially be simulcast on ESPN2 before moving in early January to its simulcast home on ESPNU. Mike & Mike will conclude its nearly 18-year run on November 17.
 
Mike Golic, Jr. will join Golic & Wingo from 6 – 7 a.m. daily. He will continue to host ESPN Radio’s First & Last from 4 – 6 a.m. every weekday before contributing to the new morning show at 6 a.m. Golic & Wingo will also be available via ESPNRadio.com, the ESPN app, SiriusXM Channel 80, Apple Music, Slacker Radio and TuneIn.  A daily podcast will also post on ESPNRadio.com and will be accessible through the ESPN app.
 
Fans will have a sneak-peek of Golic & Wingo when the duo host Mike & Mike this week from July 18 – July 20, while Mike Greenberg guest hosts The Michael Kay Show (3 – 7 p.m.) alongside Don La Greca on ESPN New York 98.7FM from July 17 – 20. Greenberg’s new TV show will premiere January 1, 2018.
 
A member of the National Association of Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame, Golic currently serves as one-half of ESPN Radio’s morning duo, Mike & Mike (with co-host Mike Greenberg), which has aired since January 2000. The long-running program set the bar for sports talk radio. Golic hosted the first iteration of ESPN’s morning drive show – The Bruno-Golic Morning Show – with original ESPN Radio voice Tony Bruno.
 
He joined ESPN in 1995 as an NFL studio analyst after a nine-year career in the NFL as a defensive tackle. Golic is a 1985 graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he served as captain of the football team during his senior season and also wrestled for the Irish.
 
Wingo has been one of the primary figures in ESPN’s year-round coverage of the National Football League. He joined ESPN in November 1997 as an anchor for ESPNEWS and has served as host of NFL Live since its inception in 2003. He is the host of ESPN’s multi-day NFL Draft coverage. He added NFL Sundays in 2015 as host of NFL Insiders: Sunday Edition and he assumed the host role of ESPN’s long-running highlight show NFL PrimeTime in 2007. Wingo hosted The NFL on ESPN Radio, a day-long update, interview and analysis program on NFL Sundays (2001-03). Wingo graduated from Baylor University in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
 
Golic, Jr. has hosted shows on ESPN Radio since 2015.  Like his father, he is a graduate of Notre Dame and played college football for the Irish.

Days to Auburn Kickoff: 48 Stephen Davis

Only 48 short days until Auburn football!

Today we honor a notable number 48; Stephen Davis.

The Spartanburg, South Carolina native went to Spartanburg High School before arriving on Auburn’s campus in the fall of 1992.

Davis was regarded as the No. 1 recruit in the nation in 1992 and was named USA Today Offensive High School Football Player of the Year. Davis played running back for the Tigers from 1993 until 1995. He made the All-SEC team his last two seasons at Auburn and graduated as the team’s fourth all-time leading rusher behind Joe Cribbs, James Brooks, and Bo Jackson.

Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Davis had a successful 11 year NFL career and currently holds the record for rush attempts (1.945), rush yards (8,052), and rushing TDs (65) amongst all Auburn alumni in NFL history.
